In the Quran the word “fabrication” or “lie” (fara) is used 60 times with all its derivatives and the word “defamation” (afak) which is used in a very close context with this word is used 30 times with all its derivatives: half as many. Below is a verse that shows the semantic relationship between these words:
28-…Such were false gods they idolized;
such were the defamations they fabricated.

Kuran’da “uydurma-yalan (fara)” kelimesi tüm türevleriyle 60 defa geçer, bu kelimeye çok yakın anlamda kullanılan “iftira (afak)” kelimesinin tüm türevleri ise bunun yarısı kadar, 30 defa geçmektedir. Bu iki kelimenin beraber kullanıldığı, anlamsal ilişkilerini de gösteren bir ayet şöyledir:
İşte bu onların iftirası ve uydurduklarıdır.(46:28)
